a2900975ef i386: move PIT function declarations and constants to correct header file
setup_pit_timer is declared in asm-i386/timer.h. Move it to the pit header
file, so it can be used by x86_64 as well.

Move also the PIT constants.

7671988b9c i386: PIT stop only, when in periodic or oneshot mode
The patch is necessary on one of my boxen, where programming the stop
sequence twice leads to PIT malfunction.

Sigh !

18de5bc4c1 clockevents: fix resume logic
We need to make sure, that the clockevent devices are resumed, before
the tick is resumed. The current resume logic does not guarantee this.

Add CLOCK_EVT_MODE_RESUME and call the set mode functions of the clock
event devices before resuming the tick / oneshot functionality.

Fixup the existing users.

Thanks to Nigel Cunningham for tracking down a long standing thinko,
which affected the jinxed VAIO.

2feae2158a [VOYAGER] clockevents: correct boot cpu is zero assumption
This isn't true for voyager, so alter setup_pit_timer() to initialise
the cpumask from the current processor id (which should be the boot
processor) rather than defaulting to zero.

6b3964cde7 [PATCH] i386: clockevents fix breakage on Geode/Cyrix PIT implementations
The PIT has no dedicated mode for shut down. The only way to disable PIT
is to put it into one shot mode. AMD implementations of PIT on Geode
(also observed on Cyrix) are confused by an "empty" transition from
CLOCK_EVT_MODE_UNUSED to CLOCK_EVT_MODE_SHUTDOWN, which puts the PIT
into one shot mode momentarily.

I realized after staring helpless at the bug report
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8027 for quite a while, that
the only change, which might influence the bogomips calibration, is the
above transition during the PIT initialization.

Avoiding the unnecessary switch to oneshot and later to periodic mode
fixes the weird bogomips value and also the resulting slowness.

The fix is confirmed on OLPC and another Geode based box.

Note: this is unrelated to the Dual Core problem discussed here:

6bb74df481 [PATCH] clocksource init adjustments (fix bug #7426)
This patch resolves the issue found here:
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7426

The basic summary is:
Currently we register most of i386/x86_64 clocksources at module_init
time. Then we enable clocksource selection at late_initcall time. This
causes some problems for drivers that use gettimeofday for init
calibration routines (specifically the es1968 driver in this case),
where durring module_init, the only clocksource available is the low-res
jiffies clocksource. This may cause slight calibration errors, due to
the small sampling time used.

It should be noted that drivers that require fine grained time may not
function on architectures that do not have better then jiffies
resolution timekeeping (there are a few). However, this does not
discount the reasonable need for such fine-grained timekeeping at init
time.

Thus the solution here is to register clocksources earlier (ideally when
the hardware is being initialized), and then we enable clocksource
selection at fs_initcall (before device_initcall).

This patch should probably get some testing time in -mm, since
clocksource selection is one of the most important issues for correct
timekeeping, and I've only been able to test this on a few of my own
boxes.

e9e2cdb412 [PATCH] clockevents: i386 drivers
Add clockevent drivers for i386: lapic (local) and PIT/HPET (global). Update
the timer IRQ to call into the PIT/HPET driver's event handler and the
lapic-timer IRQ to call into the lapic clockevent driver. The assignement of
timer functionality is delegated to the core framework code and replaces the
compile and runtime evalution in do_timer_interrupt_hook()

Use the clockevents broadcast support and implement the lapic_broadcast
function for ACPI.

No changes to existing functionality.

3f4a0b917c [PATCH] i386 Time: Avoid PIT SMP lockups
Avoid possible PIT livelock issues seen on SMP systems (and reported by
Andi), by not allowing it as a clocksource on SMP boxes.

However, since the PIT may no longer be present, we have to properly handle
the cases where SMP systems have TSC skew and fall back from the TSC.
Since the PIT isn't there, it would "fall back" to the TSC again. So this
changes the jiffies rating to 1, and the TSC-bad rating value to 0.

Thus you will get the following behavior priority on i386 systems:

tsc [if present & stable]
hpet [if present]
cyclone [if present]
acpi_pm [if present]
pit [if UP]
jiffies

Rather then the current more complicated:
tsc [if present & stable]
hpet [if present]
cyclone [if present]
acpi_pm [if present]
pit [if cpus < 4]
tsc [if present & unstable]
jiffies

5d0cf410e9 [PATCH] Time: i386 Clocksource Drivers
Implement the time sources for i386 (acpi_pm, cyclone, hpet, pit, and tsc).
With this patch, the conversion of the i386 arch to the generic timekeeping
code should be complete.

The patch should be fairly straight forward, only adding the new clocksources.

8d016ef138 [PATCH] Time: i386 Conversion - part 1: Move timer_pit.c to i8253.c
A simple cleanup for the i386 arch in preparation of moving to the generic
timeofday infrastructure. It simply moves the PIT initialization code, locks,
and other code we want to keep from some code from timer_pit.c (which will be
removed) to i8253.c.
