e545a6140b kernel/cpu.c: create a CPU_STARTING cpu_chain notifier
Right now, there is no notifier that is called on a new cpu, before the new
cpu begins processing interrupts/softirqs.
Various kernel function would need that notification, e.g. kvm works around
by calling smp_call_function_single(), rcu polls cpu_online_map.

The patch adds a CPU_STARTING notification. It also adds a helper function
that sends the message to all cpu_chain handlers.

Tested on x86-64.
All other archs are untested. Especially on sparc, I'm not sure if I got
it right.

72a7fe3967 Introduce flags for reserve_bootmem()
This patchset adds a flags variable to reserve_bootmem() and uses the
BOOTMEM_EXCLUSIVE flag in crashkernel reservation code to detect collisions
between crashkernel area and already used memory.

This patch:

Change the reserve_bootmem() function to accept a new flag BOOTMEM_EXCLUSIVE.
If that flag is set, the function returns with -EBUSY if the memory already
has been reserved in the past. This is to avoid conflicts.

Because that code runs before SMP initialisation, there's no race condition
inside reserve_bootmem_core().

5fb7dc37dc define new percpu interface for shared data
per cpu data section contains two types of data. One set which is
exclusively accessed by the local cpu and the other set which is per cpu,
but also shared by remote cpus. In the current kernel, these two sets are
not clearely separated out. This can potentially cause the same data
cacheline shared between the two sets of data, which will result in
unnecessary bouncing of the cacheline between cpus.

One way to fix the problem is to cacheline align the remotely accessed per
cpu data, both at the beginning and at the end. Because of the padding at
both ends, this will likely cause some memory wastage and also the
interface to achieve this is not clean.

This patch:

Moves the remotely accessed per cpu data (which is currently marked
as ____cacheline_aligned_in_smp) into a different section, where all the data
elements are cacheline aligned. And as such, this differentiates the local
only data and remotely accessed data cleanly.

67d38229df [PATCH] disable init/initramfs.c: architectures
Update all arch/*/kernel/vmlinux.lds.S to not include space for initramfs
when CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRAMFS is not selected. This saves another 4 kbytes
on most platfoms (some reserve PAGE_SIZE for initramfs).

3d60f84934 [PATCH] m32r: fix kernel entry address of vmlinux
This patch fixes the kernel entry point address of vmlinux.

The m32r kernel entry address is 0x08002000 (physical).
But, so far, the ENTRY point written in vmlinux.lds.S was not point
the correct kernel entry address.

(before fix)
    $ objdump -x vmlinux
    vmlinux: file format elf32-m32r-linux
    vmlinux
    architecture: m32r2, flags 0x00000112:

(after fix)
    $ objdump -x vmlinux
    vmlinux: file format elf32-m32r-linux

This fix also remedies the following GDB error message (of gdb-6.4 or after)
at the first operation of kernel debugging:
"Previous frame identical to this frame (corrupt stack?)".

b282b6f8a8 [PATCH] Change cpu_up and co from __devinit to __cpuinit
Compiling the kernel with CONFIG_HOTPLUG = y and CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU = n
with CONFIG_RELOCATABLE = y generates the following modpost warnings

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141b7d) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text:__cpu_up
from .text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141bd8) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141c05) and 'cpu_up'
WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from

WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from
.text between '_cpu_up' (at offset 0xc0141c37) and 'cpu_up'

This is because cpu_up, _cpu_up and __cpu_up (in some architectures) are
defined as __devinit
AND
__cpu_up calls some __cpuinit functions.

Since __cpuinit would map to __init with this kind of a configuration,
we get a .text refering .init.data warning.

This patch solves the problem by converting all of __cpu_up, _cpu_up
and cpu_up from __devinit to __cpuinit. The approach is justified since
the callers of cpu_up are either dependent on CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU or
are of __init type.

Thus when CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=y, all these cpu up functions would land up
in .text section, and when CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=n, all these functions would
land up in .init section.

Tested on a i386 SMP machine running linux-2.6.20-rc3-mm1.

6b8bd3f4b2 [PATCH] m32r: fix ace_handler to pass full 32-bit address
Don't mask the lower 12-bit of the page fault address.

In the current m32r kernel implementation, we use an access exception
to detect page faults.

This patch fixes ace_handler (access exception handler) for m32r. In order to
check userspace address in do_page_fault, we have to pass full 32-bit address
to do_page_fault.
